A Certificate of Achievement in Technical Theatre is recommended for those considering a professional career in the entertainment industry or theatre. A certificate would demonstrate support and knowledge for those who are attempting to gain entry-level employment as a Theatre Technician, Theatrical Stage Employee, Moving Picture Technician, Entertainment Artist, or in Allied Crafts.
Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” grade or better in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, Technical Theatre.
After meeting with industry advisory committee which included several high schools that indicated there would be a demand for this certificate and they would be interested in articulation and there is a need for this program in the area, we do expect to have interest in the program. We expect that enrollment will grow in the upcoming years.
Initially we expect 20-40 annual enrollments with 10-15 completers of the program
· Students will demonstrate competence in the technical, design, and/or acting aspects of theatrical productions.
· Students will be able to describe, analyze, interpret, and evaluate dramatic literature and theatrical productions.
· Students will demonstrate an understanding of and empathy for the racial, ethnic, social, and cultural diversity of U.S. and World theatre.
This 18 unit Certificate of Achievement will require students to complete 6 three unit Theater courses. This certificate provides students with instruction to various areas of technical theater in support of theater production.
