Catalog Description

The Law Enforcement Career Preparation program will enable students to explore various careers, including police officer, deputy sheriff, and 9-1-1 dispatcher.  Students will also gain work experience while learning about the greater criminal justice system.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

  • Describe the history, structure, and functions of the main components of the American criminal justice system.
  • Demonstrate a work ethic consistent with the expectations of a criminal justice system professional.
Enrollment Completer Projections

Enrollment and Completer Projections –  Enrollment and completer projections are 30 students per class and 30 completers per class.  Total would be 120 in each category. We are excited by this new program and feel these numbers are attainable.

Catalog Description *-The Law Enforcement Career Preparation program will enable students to explore various careers, including police officer, deputy sheriff, and 9-1-1 dispatcher.  Students will also gain work experience while learning about the greater criminal justice system.

Program Requirements – 

The minimum time for completion of this certificate is 2 semesters. Completion time will vary based on student preparation and number of classes completed per semester.

No other programs like this one exist at other community colleges in the region. All surrounding colleges offer internship classes as well as the other ADMJ classes required in this program, but none offer a certificate of achievement like this one. Outside our immediate region, Napa Valley College is the only college that has a similar program with the same title. We checked with their program coordinator, Greg Miraglia, and received full support for our college’s program. We also checked with Dr. Francisco Gamez at San Mateo Community College and received full support.
