Catalog Description

The Nursing Assistant the student for working as a nursing assistant in a long-term care facility and for passing the state National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification exam for nursing assistants as required by California Department of Public Health. Students are required to attend a mandatory information session, once provisionally accepted, mandatory orientation, live scan fingerprinting and health requirements for clinical practice. Must be 16 years old or older and have an American Heart Association Basic Life Support card prior to Clinical days.

Upon completion of the required courses with at least a “C” grade or better in each course, the student will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement, Nursing Assistant.  

Enrollment Completer Projections

There will be 5rotations a year (1 Summer class, 2 Spring classes and 2 Fall Classes) which will be 8-9 weeks in length. Each cohort will be 30 students could yield100-150 students annually.

Program Goal

The Nursing Assistant, Certificate of Achievement prepares the student for working as a nursing assistant in along-term care facility and for passing the state National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) certification exam for nursing assistants as required by California Department of Public Health. Topics include fundamental principles of basic nursing care necessary to meet the hygiene, comfort, and safety needs of clients, as well as the prevention, identification, and reporting of suspected patient abuse. A focus on developing communicative skill sand effective interpersonal relations with clients, families, and fellow healthcare team members is emphasized. This program also focuses on workplace competencies (skills) required for work such as professional behavior, time management, dress, and communication. Students are required to attend a mandatory information session, once provisionally accepted, mandatory orientation, live scan fingerprinting and health requirements for clinical practice. Must be 16 years old or older and have an American Heart Association Basic Life Support card prior to Clinical days.

The Nursing Assistant, Certificate of Achievement will consist of 3 courses: NUAS 10, NUAS 11, and NUAS 12 for a total of 9 units. Students will need to complete all courses and will be co-requisites of each other.
