Catalog Description

This program is designed for those students seeking to gain employment as an entry level firefighter in a municipal, wildland or private fire protection organization. 

There are no prerequisite skills or enrollment limitations.

The student learning outcomes include the following:

  • Demonstrate how to effectively prepare for a career in the Fire Service.
  • Distinguish the various types of services the Fire Service provides to the community.
  • Illustrate the culture of safety in the Fire Service and its importance when providing quality service to the community.

Program Goal

The Fire Technology Program is designed to prepare students for a career in the Fire Service which includes understanding the importance of diversity and equity when providing service to the community. Successful students will learn how to implement inclusive team building skills through effective oral and written communications while providing for safety at all times.

Additionally, this program follows an industry specific curriculum outlined in the United States Fire Administration Fire & Emergency Services Higher Education (FESHE).  The curriculum provides a strong foundation in basic fire behavior principles, building construction, fire suppression strategies/tactics, firefighter safety, community risk reduction, supervisory/leadership practices, incident management.
