The Ironworkers Apprenticeship program will expose the students to the concepts of analytical thinking required for trouble shooting and problem solving. Students will be taught in a multicultural environment where the values of social and environmental justice are highly valued, and where student achievement and success are continually assessed. The program will provide high quality relevant instruction to empower students with the basic skills for a career pathway to the future, providing lifelong learning and gainful employment within the construction industry.
Students must satisfactorily complete all major and certificate courses with a grade of “C” or better and at least four courses must be completed at San José City College.
Estimated projections are based on current data beween 150 - 200 per year

A. Demonstrate their ability to read and interpret building codes, blueprints, manuals, specifications, shop drawings, and communicate with diverse groups developing an understanding of cultural norms and communication skills.
B. Apply an understanding of construction terms, concepts, and hands-on applications. Students will problem solve a variety of applications in the construction industry including written and practical demonstrations.
C. Work and interact effectively to be well-rounded, compassionate, responsible, ethical professionals with a willingness to serve the local community’s needs.
D. Demonstrate the skills learned from construction technologies courses to work on projects that involve building infrastructure, commercial buildings and housing.
E. Work to create and produce environmentally sustainable projects and sensitive aesthetics.

Course Report
This 4-year apprenticeship program (vocational) is designed to develop appreciation, knowledge, and skills essential for employment in the Ironworking Industry. These courses are part of a series of course completions that may lead to a career as a Journeyman Ironworker. Instruction includes both theory and practical work in the safe use of tools and equipment to perform various tasks.
The Department of Apprenticeship Training and the National Training Fund oversees, coordinates and manages the education and training that provides apprentices with the knowledge and skills ranging from the basic to the very advanced. The mission of the Ironworkers Apprenticeship and Training Department is to insure the apprentices have the skills, knowledge and training necessary to be safe on the jobsite, competitive in the workplace, and satisfied with their careers.
