Catalog Description

The Media Arts - Game Art and Design Certificate of Achievement equips students with essential artistic, technological, storytelling, and design skills vital for success as developers and visual effects artists within the competitive entertainment, design, and communications industries.  

 This program not only focuses on traditional applications in software development,cinema, and internet programming but also explores emerging fields like medical research, engineering, virtual and augmented reality, immersive media, and more.  

 The curriculum is rigorous, offering a foundational understanding of design and technology alongside specialized coursework in game theory, visual effects, and immersive media.  

 Students will participate in a 2 semester curriculum, gaining practical experience in real-world settings. While predominantly face-to-face, the program also offers virtual courses taught by industry professionals nationwide, expanding students' networks and exposure to industry practices.  

 Through hands-on experience with industry-standard software and hardware, students cover the entire creative pipeline, from storyboarding to rendering and compositing, preparing them comprehensively for diverse career opportunities in these cutting-edge disciplines. 

 Program Learning outcomes 

  1. Students will be able to communicate core visual art concepts in oral and written assignments.  

  1. Students will demonstrate the ability to use critical thinking skills when designing and implementing independent skill-based projects.  

  1. Students will demonstrate informational and technological competence as applied to interactive media concepts.  

  1. Students will be able to apply visual arts principles to the development of lifelong personal growth recognizing the complexity of social, cultural, and international diversity.

Program Requirements Narrative

The Media Arts - Game Art and Design Certificate of Achievement contains seven (7) core courses totaling 20 units. 

 The core courses lay the foundational knowledge with the initial courses in media arts game art and design which apply to a variety of jobs as Riggers, Entry level 3D Artists, Producers, and Junior Designers. 

 Program Requirements Program Requirements includes course requirements and sequencing that reflect program goals. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0 

  1. All courses in the major require a "C" or better 

  1. A "P" (Pass) grade is also an acceptable grade for courses in the major if the course is taken on a Pass/No Pass basis, where a Pass is defined as a "C" or better"
