Catalog Description:

The Biotechnology LaboratoryAssistant Certificate of Achievement (CoA) is an interdisciplinary certificate with coursework in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and biology. Through the core biotechnology courses, students will be introduced to a large breadth of topics including basic techniques in biotechnology laboratories, molecular biology, plant engineering, molecular diagnostic, quality, and biomanufacturing. To complete the Associate Degree in Biotechnology (AS), students must complete the following:

Core courses - consist of Biotech 002, Biotech 003, Micro 020, Mat 227 (statistics), and an introductory chemistry course. 

Option-specific courses:

1. General Biotech option - Biol 006 and Biotech 385

2. Plant Biotech option - PLNT SC 711, PLNT SC 103,PLNT SC 726

GE Courses: a minimum of 32 semester units.


Upon completion of this certificate, students will gain proficiency in both technical and employability skills to gain employment in the Biotech industry

Biotech 002 (Biotechnology I) - 4 units

Biotech 003 (Biotechnology II) - 4 units

Chem 060 (Intro to General Chem), Chem 051 (Fundamental of Chem I), or higher - 5 units

Micro 020 (General Microbiology) - 4 units

Math 227 (Statistics) - 4 units

Biol 006 (General Biology I) - 5 units

Biotech 385 (Directed Study - Biotechnology) - 3 units


Option 2 - Plant Biotech:
