This certificate program will provide recipients with skills in culturing mammalian cells required for employment in research and industry lab environments.
20-30
This certificate will prepare students with hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and adult or embryonic stem cell culture.
The program focuses on advanced biotechnology skills with a strong emphasis on basic mammalian cell culture techniques and specialized applications. Key skills covered include the use and maintenance of standard cell culture laboratory equipment, aseptic techniques for cell culture, methods for the growth, propagation, and maintenance of cultured mammalian cells (including stem cells), cell quantitation, cell imaging, introduction of DNA into cultured mammalian cells, laboratory safety requirements for cell culture, and the maintenance of industry-standard laboratory notebooks. Familiarity with cGMPs and FDA guidelines for the pharmaceutical and biological industries is also emphasized. Interpersonal skills are critical, as students will often collaborate with other researchers in the cultured cell work environment.
