The Agriculture major is designed for students who are looking at an Associate Degree from Porterville College as a terminal Degree as well as for students transferring to four-year schools with various Agriculture majors. The required classes represent the normal undergraduate core for transfer to the CSU system.
Graduates from a four-year school have a wide range of career options including but not limited to: Agriculture Business and Agriculture Production areas.
Program Learning Outcomes: Students will understand and describe the nature of leadership and the role of the manager as a leader; compare and contrast the role of agriculture in the economic structure of the country and the world;identify the best management practices for sustained productivity of agricultural production; demonstrate technological effectively and its purpose with in the Agricultural industry; explain the significance of international cooperation to the success of global agribusiness.
At least twenty-four (24) units must be completed from the following courses:

The Associate in Science in Agriculture Production will be offered through the Career and Technical Education Division; specifically,the Agricultural Department. Currently, the program is not directly related to any other programs within the college.
There are numerous programs within the surrounding counties(Kern, Tulare, Kings and Fresno) which have similar programs. Areas of study that are offered that are similar are: Plant Science/Agronomy/Horticulture and Programs with Ag Business emphasis.

Course Report

General Education: In addition to completing the major requirements, students must also complete one general education pattern: 1. PC General Education Pattern 2. IGETC Pattern 3. CSU General Education Pattern Electives as needed to complete the 60 minimum units to complete the degree.
The Program contents were designed to meet the needs of the local community as were established by the Advisory Committee and the Porterville College Mission.
The courses required for the degree are specifically designed as transferable(100 series) courses to prepare students for areas of study at the baccalaureate level.
This Program is appropriate to the mission statement of Porterville College and the Community College System and addresses a valid transfer path as well as occupational preparedness. The skills obtained through this program include, but are not limited to:
- Plant anatomy and physiology
- Plant Propagation
- Horticulture
- an understanding of Soil as an ecosystem and part or the overall ecosystem
- an understanding of the importance of sustainable agriculture in the production of food and fiber
- an understanding of the business and marketing systems locally, domestically and globally and how it impacts our overall economic strength.
