The Automotive Technology: Fundamentals of Automotive Service Certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in all aspects of the automotive industry with an emphasis in Service Consultant and Parts Specialist. Students will learn customer service skills, parts inventory, and the use of specialty tools. They will inspect, adjust, and replace vehicle parts. The program will provide the necessary skills and knowledge through the use of modern tools and equipment. Upon successful completion of this program, the student will be prepared to take national certification exams (ASE C1 – Service Consultants and P2 – Parts Specialist).
The pathwayis designed as a 2 semester program. Based on the projected data, it isanticipated that 18 students annually will complete the program.

- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The program is a restructure of the existing automotive program certificates. No new courses were developed. The new certificate align better with industry needs as well as industry certifications.

Imperial Valley College submitted the appropriate LMI. While a supply gap exists for this occupation, the available LMI recommends proceeding with caution when developing a program because 1) entry-level wages are below the living wage and 2) the percentage of students who earned a living wage after completing related programs is below the state average for students who complete Career Education programs in general.
