Need Please provide a 2-3 paragraph discussion which demonstrates a need for the program that meets the stated goals and objectives in the region the college proposes to serve with the degree. A proposed new degree must not cause undue competition with an existing program at another college. Include the following items in your discussion. 1. Enrollment and completer projections 2. Place of the program in the curriculum 3. Availability of similar programs in the region 4. Career opportunities

There is a great need for qualified special needs early care in our community. Through our advisory board, we have noted a shortage of teachers with special needs expertise and course units.

This program is provided within the Child Development discipline, FACE Department, Education pathway.

Percentage of the program that is offered online. 51%-100%.

Planning Summary: Adequate Resources Please address the following topics in one or two sentences: 1. Estimated FTE Faculty Workload (formula for calculating FTE is in the handbook ) 2. Number of New Faculty Positions /Availability of qualified faculty 3. Estimated Cost of New Equipment 4. New/Remodeled Facilities requested 5. Estimated Cost of Library Acquisitions

This program is a long-standing program that has been offered for many years. There is no additional cost added to the department on behalf of this cost.

This program has not changed it is just being updated. One of the required courses had a course number change. Therefore, for enrollment and completion projections we plan to continue to offer the classes and the program for our students and ECE professionals in the community.  The department plans to offer fast-track online options so that teachers already working in the field can quickly complete the units and attain their certificate of achievement.
