Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

The majority of requirements for this certificate of achievement were based on the existing curriculum from our Dance Teaching Departmental Certificate which we have offered for several years. After meeting with our Board of Advisors, it was decided to add two courses to our originally proposed curriculum for the dance teacher certificate. Those courses are Dance 10 Fundamentals of Dance Technique and either Dance 2 (Dance in American Culture) or Dance 5 (Dance History).

Offering the Dance Teaching Certificate of Achievement would serve our current SMC students interested in dance-related teaching careers as well as attract local, national, and international pre-professional and professional dance educators to our program. Based on the previous departmental certificate in teaching dance, we expect to have approximately 3-5 students complete the entire certificate over the course of one academic year.
