Catalog Description:

The certificate in Mechatronics/Industrial foundation prepares students for a career in automation by exposing them to the fundamentals of embedded systems, instrumentation and measurement techniques and devices, and the basics of electricity and electronics. The program prepares students for careers in the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial automation systems focusing on the local industries that utilize these technologies, such as food production, petroleum production, fabrication, and logistics. This program applies electronics and computer technology to industrial automation systems, including instrumentation and control, industrial robotics, and process control systems. Significant emphasis is placed on project-based learning facilitated by significant laboratory work.

Program Requirements Narrative

To earn the Mechatronics and Automation Fundamentals Certificate, students must complete the required courses in the suggested sequence with a minimum grade of “C.” The program's required courses are Introduction to Embedded Systems, Instrumentation and Process Control, Electricity and Electronics, and Industrial Design and Graphics, totaling 13 units.

Upon completing the program, students will have the knowledge and skills to understand, design, and operate automated systems, preparing them for entry-level positions in this field.
