Winery Event Coordinator
New Program
Hospitality (130700)
05/24/21
Winery Event Coordinators work with a winery property by creating, selling, planning, managing, promoting and executing weddings, concerts, release/club parties, industry tastings and more. This is a very exciting and diverse career. Upon successful completion of the Winery Event Coordinator certificate, students will have experience participating in the organization and execution of an event which may include a wine tasting or catering at a winery. Coursework will provide understanding how to create profitable events through proper planning, targeted marketing and cost management. This will prepare the student for an entry level position in the Winery Events Industry. .
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to:
- Identify events to promote sales and public relations for wineries.
- Identify the steps needed to produce a special event for a winery including, weddings, wine release/pick up events, wine maker dinners, trade and public tastings.
- Demonstrate the ability to prepare a post event cost analysis as well as a profit and loss statement for a particular event., enabling the event coordinator to provide data on the viability of an event.
I estimate that 12-14 students will complete this program annually.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
CTE (Limited to programs in CTE codes other that ADTs) (C)
The goal of the Winery Event Coordinator Certificate will prepare the student to enter the wine industry workforce at an entry level position within Winery Event Operations. This is a growing segment within the wine industry which enables wineries to maximize revenue through the offering of wedding venues, social celebrations, release parties and concerts. Focus will be placed on essential skills building in event coordination to include planning, marketing, staffing, equipment requirements, event execution and post event analysis. These skills would prepare the student for entry level employment as an event coordinator with potential for upward growth to the position of Winery Event Manager as well as Winery Sales positions. These skills may transfer to other industries as event planners are in demand and earn an above average living wage. A student may also transfer to a four year college to earn a bachelors degree in event planning.
Program Objectives
- Explain the winemaking process for Sparkling, White, Red and Fortified Wine.
