MiraCosta obviously supports the modification, however, and in discussion with the faculty and dean of arts (this program is not housed in my school) we would not pursue a new program based on the LMI. As always the hope is that the modifications better meet the demands of today's photography industry.

Palomar supports program modification. Demand for photographers is high and LMI data on wages may not fully reflect how photographers combine income from multiple employers/contracts.

MiraCosta College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program but supports a program modification because 1) entry-level earnings are below the living wage; and 2) a supply gap exists. The colleges should note that the percentage of students who earned a living wage after completing a related program is below the statewide percentage for Career Education programs in general. The colleges should also note that the typical entry-level education is a high school diploma or equivalent.
