The Instructional Design Certificate of Achievement is designed to meet the needs of individuals at various points in their career, including:

  1. Current instructional designers need formal training - Due to the rapid expansion of e-learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, many individuals stepped into instructional design roles to meet the urgent demand, often without formal training/education. This certificate provides these professionals with a structured and comprehensive upskilling pathway, enhancing their expertise in their current roles.
  2. This certificate serves as an ideal stepping stone for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and are considering a future in instructional design. It allows them to gain essential skills and knowledge in the field without immediately committing to a master’s program. This practical experience will prepare them for instructional design jobs and help them decide to pursue further education.
  3. Even for those who have completed a master’s program, the instructional design landscape continually evolves with new technologies. This certificate program allows these professionals to update their skills with emerging technologies, such as video production and artificial intelligence, ensuring they remain competitive, effective, and current.
  4. This certificate is also suited for individuals who are simply curious about instructional design and those wanting to start their instructional design careers. It offers a thorough introduction and hands-on experience, preparing learners to land an entry-level position in the field without the extensive time and financial investment required by a master’s degree.

After completion of the certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Apply instructional design theories and models in the development of learning experiences.
  2. Develop accessible instructional materials that are inclusive of diverse learner populations.
  3. Enhance learning experiences through human-centered design and technology

Mesa College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program because 1) the expected level of education for this occupation is a master’s degree; but 2) entry-level wages pay above the living wage; and 3) a supply gap exists for this occupation.

Mesa College is pleased to present this unique Certificate of Achievement. The LMI file also includes letters of support and the Advisory Minutes. We see this CoA as meeting the evolving needs of education and training professionals, both in public and private industry.
