The Reserve Officer Certificate of Achievement (16-16.5 units) is designed to develop skills for state certified limited peace officer appointments through a progressive sequence of courses. Upon completion of this certificate, students will demonstrate a general understanding of entry-level skills, knowledge, reserve police officer job requirements, and will be qualified under the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and PC 830.6 to serve statewide in limited police officer, reserve police officer, reserved deputy sheriff positions.
Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.
Projected Annual Completers: 15-30 annually
Current enrollment is approximately 15-25 students for fall 2022. In 2020 and 2021, enrollment was between 15-31 students each academy.
Program goal is to address an occupational need in the region. The reserve officer program will prepare students to serve statewide in limited police officer, reserve police officer, reserved deputy sheriff positions.
Required Course Sequences:
ADMJ C140 – Basic Peace Officer Academy Orientation (0.5 Units): 9 hours lecture. This orientation course prepares students for the Law Enforcement Academy. A series of self-assessment activities and exercises help students understand the Academy challenges and requirements. This course is presented in a rigorous and disciplined training environment. Students participate in activities designed to simulate the Cerro Coso Law Enforcement Academy to assess individual emotional, mental and physical readiness for the Academy.
ADMJ C142 – Basic Peace Officer Academy Module III (5 Units): 45 hours lecture/135 hours laboratory. This course provides basic instruction designed to prepare students for the performance of limited peace officer duties. The curriculum is established through the requirements set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), which include: introduction to law enforcement, administration of justice, criminal law, evidence, community-police relations, patrol procedures, juvenile procedures, defensive tactics, firearms, First Aid/CPR, vehicle operations, domestic violence and related topics.
ADMJ C143 – Basic Peace Officer Academy Modular Format II (10 Units): 162 hours lecture/54 hours laboratory. This course is designed to fulfill State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements for Level I academy certification. This course prepares students to successfully transition to the Basic Academy Modular Level I Course. A successful Livescan fingerprint background check is required.

ADMJ C062 – Special Topics in Administration of Justice (1 Units): One Unit/Variable Hour course: 0-18 hours Lecture 0-54 hours Laboratory 18-54 hours maximum. This course is designed to update current peace officers training with current laws, procedures, and practices. This course does not fulfill core or elective requirements for a certificate or degree in the field of Administration of Justice.

ADMJ C063 – Special Topics in Administration of Justice (0.5 Units): This is a .50 Unit course with variable hours: 0-9 Lecture Hours 0-27 Laboratory Hours. This course is designed to update current peace officers training with current laws, procedures, and practices. This course does not fulfill core or elective requirements for a certificate or degree in the field of Administration of Justice.
