Catalog Description:

The Biotechnology Laboratory Assistant Certificate of Achievement (CoA) is an interdisciplinary certificate with coursework in Biotechnology, Chemistry, and biology. Through the core Biotechnology courses, students will be introduced to a large breadth of topics including basic techniques in biotechnology laboratories, molecular biology, plant engineering, molecular diagnostic, quality, and biomanufacturing. Students must complete the core Biotech courses (2) and an introductory Chemistry course to earn the Biotechnology Laboratory Assistant Certificate of Achievement. Upon completion of this certificate, students will gain proficiency in both technical and employability skills to gain employment in the Biotech industry. Students will also have the option to complete a Plant Biotechnology degree/ certificate or transfer to the4-year Biomanufacturing program. 

Required Courses:

Biotech 002 (Biotechnology I) - 4 units

Biotech 003 (Biotechnology II) - 4 units

Chem 060 (Intro to General Chem), Chem 051 (Fundamental of Chem I), or higher - 5 units


There is no pre-requisite to enter the program.

To earn the Biotechnology Laboratory Assistant Certificate of Achievement, students must complete the two (2) Biotech core courses (Biotech 002 and Biotech 002), and an introductory Chemistry course.
