Water Utility Management
New Program
Water and Wastewater Technology (095800)
01/01/25
The Associate of Science (A.S.) in Water Utility Management program provides current students and water industry employees with the supervisory, business, human resources, and management skills needed to become the future leaders in water and wastewater organizations. Courses explore general principles of business writing, project management, supervision, as well as specific management issues related to the Water and Wastewater industries. This program is also designed to enable those already working in the field to upgrade their skills. Subjects addressed also include water quality and public health regulations. A student graduating with an Associate in Science degree in Water Utility Management can potentially transfer to a California State University (CSU) to complete a bachelor's degree. Students will be able to pursue a baccalaureate degree and prepare to pursue a career in the field of water and wastewater supervision and business/management.
For this new AS Degree and Certificate, it is estimated that there will be approximately 25 - 40 students enrolled in each of the Water and Wastewater Technology courses. The projected number of students to earn as AS Degree/Certificate of Achievement in Water Utility Management annually is approximately 20 to 25 students.
This program is designed to provide career and business management training for the area of water and wastewater technology. Students seeking seeking employment in this industry must be certified by the State of California and these programs provide the additional educational foundation to move into supervision and management positions in the water industry.
The SCC Water and Wastewater Technology Program - Technical Advisory Group has identified the need for current and potential employees to possess supervisory and management skills in addition to technical certifications. This Associate of Science (A.S.) in Water Utility Management, and the Certificate of Achievement is intended to address this need.
