Catalog Description

Robots are used in the auto, medical, and manufacturing industries, in all manner of exploration vehicles, and, of course, in many science fiction films. West Los Angeles College’s Certificate of Achievement in Essential of Robotics and programming is open to all majors. The program is designed to instruct students on the design, construction and programming of robotic and automated systems. Obtaining a certificate in Essential of Robotics and programming prepares students for work in robotics and exposes them to several  facets of the field. The program allows for a focus on the hardware and modeling or the algorithms, all of which are the integral components of robotics.

Building and programming a robot is a combination of mechanics, electronics, and problem solving. What student will learn while doing the activities and projects will be relevant to real-world applications that use robotic control, the only differences being the size and sophistication. The mechanical principles, example program listings, and circuits students will use are very similar to, and sometimes the same as, industrial applications developed by engineers.

The goal is to get students interested in and excited about the fields of engineering, mechatronics, and software development as they design, construct, and program an autonomous robot. With the rise of digital and smart technology, the accelerating demand for industrial demand for industrial robots will continue.  As a result, certified Essential in Robotics and programming are on the forefront of these growing opportunities to engage in flexible and versatile technology-rich fields.
