The Associate in Science Degree in Substance Abuse and Treatment Studies is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in understanding and addressing addiction-related issues. This program is specifically tailored to individuals interested in pursuing a career in the field of addiction counseling or related professions.
Throughout the program,students will gain a deep understanding of the causes, effects, and treatment of addiction. They will explore various theoretical approaches, evidence-based practices, and intervention strategies used in addiction counseling. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including psychology, sociology, pharmacology, counseling techniques, and ethical considerations.
Students will also develop practical skills through hands-on experiences and supervised field placements.These placements offer opportunities to work directly with individuals struggling with addiction and to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to real-world situations. This practical component allows students to develop the necessary skills and competencies required to effectively support and guide individuals on their path to recovery.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to work as addiction counselors, substance abuse educators, case managers, or prevention specialists. They will possess a strong foundation in counseling techniques, assessment and treatment planning, relapse prevention, and group facilitation.
Furthermore, this program serves as a steppingstone for those interested in pursuing higher education in addiction studies or related fields. Graduates may choose to transfer their credits towards a bachelor's degree program to further enhance their career prospects and professional development.

Program Goals:
- Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of addiction and substance abuse issues, including the biological, psychological, and social factors that contribute to addiction.
- Equip students with the necessary knowledge and skills to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals suffering from addiction and substance abuse disorders.
- Train students in evidence-based practices and interventions for addiction treatment, including counseling techniques, relapse prevention strategies, and harm reduction approaches.
- Prepare students for entry-level positions in the field of addiction studies, such as addiction counselors, case managers, prevention specialists, or program coordinators.
Program Objectives:
- Equip students with a deep understanding of the nature of addiction, its causes, effects, and various treatment approaches.
- Provide students with the necessary skills to effectively counsel and intervene in addiction cases.
- Ensure that students are well-versed in the ethical and legal aspects related to addiction counseling and treatment.
- Help students recognize the broader consequences of addiction beyond the individual level.
- Develop effective communication and interpersonal skills crucial to addiction counseling and intervention.
