Catalog Description

The Surgical Technology program prepares students for entry-level employment as surgical technologists in hospitals surgery centers and specialty clinics. The program combines didactic instruction, laboratory simulation and clinical experiences, providing students with the knowledge and skills required to enter the field of surgical technology in accordance with the American Medical Association and the Association of Surgical Technologist guidelines. 

Enrollment Completer Projections

This is a cohort based program with maximum student enrollments in a cohort limited to 24. Projections are 20-22 students successfully earning a degree from each cohort.

Program Goal

The goal of the Surgical Technology Program is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession. 

Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate practical and functional skills and knowledge of surgical technology.
  2. Demonstrate responsibilities and accountabilities within the role and competencies expected of a surgical technologist.
  3. Demonstrate competencies to meet the performance standards and scope of practice.

The Surgical Technology Associate in Science (A.S.) degree may be obtained by completion of the required program, plus general education requirements, plus sufficient electives to meet a 60-unit total. See CRC graduation requirements.
