Catalog Description

The Police Officer Certificate of Achievement (30 Units) is designed to develop skills for state certified police officer appointments through a progressive sequence of courses. Upon completion of this certificate, students will demonstrate a general understanding of entry-level skills, knowledge, police officer job requirements, and will be qualified under the Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and PC 830.1 to serve statewide as a police officer or deputy sheriff positions.

 Each course for this certificate must be completed with a grade of “C” or better.

Current enrollment is approximately 60 to 100 students for spring and fall 2022 which includes the KCSO partnership and the Cerro Coso Tehachapi modular academy pathway.

Required Course Sequences:

ADMJ C142 – Basic Peace Officer Academy Module III (5 Units): 45 hours lecture/135 hours laboratory. This course provides basic instruction designed to prepare students for the performance of limited peace officer duties. The curriculum is established through the requirements set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), which include: introduction to law enforcement, administration of justice, criminal law, evidence, community-police relations, patrol procedures, juvenile procedures, defensive tactics, firearms, First Aid/CPR, vehicle operations, domestic violence and related topics.

ADMJ C143 – Basic Peace Officer Academy Modular Format II (10 Units): 162 hours lecture/54 hours laboratory. This course is designed to fulfill State of California Peace Officer Standards and Training requirements for Level I academy certification. This course prepares students to successfully transition to the Basic Academy Modular Level I Course. A successful Livescan fingerprint background check is required.

ADMJ C144X – Basic Peace Officer Academy Modular Format I (15 Units): 180 hours lecture/270 hours laboratory. This course, in conjunction with the Basic Peace Officer Modulars III and II, prepares students for the performance of peace-officer duties. The curriculum is established through the requirements set by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.), which include introduction to law enforcement, administration of justice, criminal law, evidence, community police relations, patrol procedures, juvenile procedures, defensive tactics, firearms, first aid/CPR, vehicle operations, domestic violence, and related topics.

ACAD C200X – POST Police Academy I (3 Units): 37.5 hours lecture/30 hours laboratory/15 hours activity. This course is designed to fulfill the training requirements established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for basic peace officer training. This is the first course in a sequence that includes ACAD C200X, C201X, andC202X. Prospective students need to go through the selection process given by the certification holder

ACAD C201X – POST Police Academy II (13.5 Units): 108 hours lecture/270 hours laboratory/90 hours activity. This course is designed to fulfill the training requirements established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for basic peace officer training. This is the second course in a sequence that includes ACAD C200X, C201X, andC202X. Prospective students need to go through the selection process given by the certification holder.

ACAD C202X – POST Police Academy III (13.5 Units): 108 hours lecture/270 hours laboratory/90 hours activity. This course is designed to fulfill the training requirements established by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for basic peace officer training. This is the third course in a sequence that includes ACAD C200X, C201X, andC202X. Prospective students need to go through the selection process given by the certification holder.
