Looking at projected occupational openings within Tulare County it is challenging to narrow down what occupations are the best fit for an individual who has earned a degree in Business Administration. This process is challenging because the skills acquired within Business Education are incredibly broad.Additionally, we want to identify occupations that produce a living wage for our students. Searching within the long-term occupational sphere of Office and Administrative Support Occupations and positions which make over $12.00 per hour, there is 1 projected occupation (100 projected open positions) that requires an associate degree, 1 which requires some college, no degree, and 30which require a high school diploma.
According to BLS, on a national level, this field is projected to decline 5percent by 2029, with technology replacing approximately 959,700 positions. The annual wage for this field was $37,580, which is below the median wage for all occupations.

Porterville College’s Business program goal is to provide a quality education for a diverse population of students with all available resources while contributing to the overall enhancement of the institution. Our Educational Master Plan indicates that "the primary goal is to develop a pathway from high school to community college for career/technical education or preparation for transfer. . ." (Educational Master Plan, 2017-2021, p. 54) In addition, the Guided Pathways Work plan (p. 2) calls for the college to "engage in systematic coordination with K-12, four-year institutions and industry partners to inform program requirements." This goal of providing clear pathways from high school to college is further illustrated in the Porterville College Strategic Plan(p. 39), in which objective 4C states the commitment to "continue to work with area high schools on career pathway efforts." This degree will emphasize sustainability and internationalization. It is important to offer students the opportunity to delve into areas that are capitalized on in the business industry, both of which sustainability and internationalization focus on. Additionally, it is important to create a degree program that allows students to be counted as completers in the California Community College System.

There are three Business Management programs that host certificates and/or degrees within Tulare and Kern Counties: Bakersfield College (60 miles), Cerro Coso College (278 miles), and College of The Sequoias (45 miles). With the growing demand in the Business Management field, it is necessary for Porterville College to offer this degree as the college is the middle point between Bakersfield College and College of The Sequoias. Cerro Coso College serves another service area.
