Apple Coding Foundations -Certificate of Achievement is geared to exposing the learners to the art and practice of mobile application development for the Apple iOS operating system through the use of Objective-C, X code IDE and Swift. Students learn the basics of data, operators, and control flow in Swift, as well as documentation, debugging, X code, building and running an app, and Interface Builder. In this certificate, learners will gain experience to dive right into creating apps for the Apple platform.
Programming in Swift is one of the world’s fastest-growing coding languages. This certificate will prepare the learner to enter the next stackable certificate “Apple Coding Developer” and complete it successfully. The Apple Coding Foundations Certificate of Achievement is designed to help learners understand the Apple ecosystem, programming logic and design, and understand the mobile application development. Learners learn key computing concepts, building a solid foundation in programming with Swift. They will learn about the impact of computing and apps on society, economies, and cultures while exploring iOS app development.
Program Learning Outcomes:
Upon completing the Apple Coding Foundations Certificate of Achievement, learners will be able to:
1. Survey and understand new technology in the context of the Apple platform.
2. Learnt he fundamentals: constants, variables, data types, expressions, operators, statements, looping and branching, and more.
3. Learn key computing concepts, building a solid foundation in programming with Swift.
4. Gain practical knowledge and hands-on experience working with and developing within the Apple Ecosystem.
5. Develop and advance their knowledge in iOS and Apple applications.
6. Design and create mobile applications.
7. Learn about the larger societal, economic, and cultural impact of impact of computing and apps while exploring iOS app development.
Based on the LMI report provided by LAOCRC, there appears to be a supply gap for the programming occupation in the region. The report shows the five-year occupational demand projection to be 5826 jobs available annually in the region due to new job growth and replacements. Los Angeles Southwest College Computer Science projects a minimum of 30 learners per semester will enroll in this pathway.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
The Apple Coding Foundations Certificate of Achievement Goals and Objectives are consistent with the mission of the community colleges under Education Code section 66010.4 which states “A primary mission of the California Community Colleges is to advance California’s economic growth and global competitiveness through education, training and services that contribute to the continuous work force improvement.”
Learners completing this certificate of achievement will acquire a strong foundation in understanding programming concepts and logic, Apple ecosystem, and Swift fundamentals. Learners will be better prepared to enter and complete the Apple Coding Developer Certificate of Achievement, and help to fill the anticipated supply gap within the field.
