Catalog Description

The Business Information Professional II (BIP II) Certificate will prepare students for mid-level office and administrative support positions in a variety of job positions in a multitude of industries, including office and executive administrative support, office supervision, small business support, retail sales, and customer service representatives. The BIP II Certificate builds on the foundation established in the BIP I certificate. Students gain needed skills in business and communication and business applications such as Access, Excel, QuickBooks, and Word. Students will also learn how to manage diversity and improve intercultural communications. Students who successfully complete the BIP II certification will be prepared to test for the Expert level certification in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

The North (Greater Sacramento) subregion held 48,134 business information professionals jobs in 2020. Business information professionals jobs are projected to increase by 2% over the next five years, adding 782 new jobs to the subregion by  2025. Over the next five years, business information professionals jobs are projected to have 5,746 annual openings in the North (Greater Sacramento) subregion.

Given the need of local area employers and students searching for self-sufficient wages, the college conservatively projects completers to start at 10-15 in the initial years with continual growth as the certificate is promoted and recognized in the community.

Program Goal

Folsom Lake College's Business Professional Worker II Certificate is designed specifically to meet the needs of area employers who are in need of qualified employees to fill these positions. The BIP II Certificate builds on foundation of skills and knowledge obtained in the BIP I certificate needed for employment and salary advancement additionally students will learn how to manage diversity and improve intercultural communications. Students who successfully complete the BIP II certification will be prepared to test for the Expert level certification in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Program Requirements Narrative

This is a 22.5-26 unit Certificate of Achievement.  This new certificate is being created as part of the Department of Labor’s Strengthening Community Colleges Training Grant project, of Crosswalking Business Pathways to Public Sector Careers. This collaborative career education certificate will be offered collaboratively at all the Los Rios campuses. 

Information Communications Technologies, ICT, and Digital Media are now integrated into almost every technology, industry and job.  Folsom Lake College's Business Information Professional II Certificate was developed to align with the California State Pathway. 

Job opportunities related to business information workers include: Customer Service Representatives, Receptionists and Information Clerks, Executive Secretaries and Executive Administrative Assistants, and Secretaries and Administrative Assistants.
