Catalog Description

This certificate provides skills and knowledge to work in a new, multidisciplinary field. Students will be introduced to the basic concepts of public health infrastructure, data analysis and reporting, public health informatics and information systems, health services organization and delivery methods, data  interchange standards, disruptive innovation, and data integrity, privacy, and security.  Students can explore careers in the fields of public health, health information management, IT, and health informatics. The certificate is for both entry-level individuals and for providing additional competencies to those employed in various fields.

Program Goal

14-unit interdisciplinary CTE certificate meets CTE goals including workforce preparation. The PHIT Workforce Development Program is responsive to President Biden’s Executive Order and calls for creating and sustaining a diverse public health workforce so that the nation can better respond to future public health and biological threats.

 This certificate seeks to align program curriculum with industry standards for emerging roles that are in-demand. New opportunity to fill gaps in CA public health informatics and IT (PHIT).Collaboration the UCs, CSUs, and community college systems working with regional partners.

Culturally responsive, just-in-time stackable certificates/pathways to meet California’s PHIT needs. Accelerated job growth, remote work, quick completion time, hands-on skills, great entry point for people. Increased enrollment and program completions so that there are more degrees and certificates by developing culturally relevant public health informatics and technology curricula through a health equity lens, with multiple tracks that prepares students to meet the needs of local healthcare and public health agencies and other key industry and non-profit public health related employers. Students can explore careers in the fields of public health, health information management, IT, and health informatics.
