Program Goal

The GM ASEP Program at Cuyamaca College is a two-year associate’s degree and certification program designed to create a clear pathway toward course completion for students and provide GM and AC Delco independent dealerships with highly qualified and trained automotive service technicians. GM or Delco dealership sponsorship is a requirement of the ASEP program. This work experience opportunity will provide the student with hands-on, competency-based training to allow for success and increased wages upon graduation. The cornerstone of the ASEP program hinges on a unique and long-standing partnership with GM to foster student success in the automotive technology industry using innovative practices to accelerate learning and facilitate student placement in a fast-growing and high-paying industry.

All students enrolled in the program work closely with a team of industry leaders and college faculty/staff to guide, mentor, teach, evaluate, and sponsor students from program inception to job placement.

Jennifer Lewis · 03/12/21 Southwestern supports this program modification. Jesse Lopez · 03/11/21 Based on available LMI and COE's endorsement, Miramar College also supports the program modification. Nichol Roe · 03/11/21 Palomar College supports this program modification Tina Recalde · 03/11/21 SD Mesa supports this program modification. Dr. Javier Ayala · 03/10/21 Endorse Dr. Al Taccone · 03/08/21 MiraCosta College recommends. Especially given the ASEP relationship. Tina Ngo Bartel · 03/06/21 Cuyamaca College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. There is a supply gap (110 annual job openings), entry-level wages are $14.69 and median wages are $20.74. Based on available LMI, the COE report supports the program modification. The COE also recommends that colleges communicate to students that the occupation’s entry-level wages are below the living wage, suggesting that more training and experience are needed for workers in this occupation to reach median wage levels.
