Award Description:

The 3D Modeling and Animation Certificate of Achievement is a training ground for aspiring artists seeking opportunities to develop the necessary foundation skills to create content in the realm of 3Dcomputer generated arts. Students follow standard production pipelines and master production tools and processes to expand their creative and technical skills in the areas of 3D modeling, animation, virtual texturing and lighting, rendering, character design and development, environment art, compositing, virtual cinematography, pre-production, visualization, and other types of interactive and linear storytelling and visualization. Upon completion of this degree, students will be able to produce simple independent 3D animated productions and visualizations, and move on to further their academic studies.

Program Description:

The Multimedia Program is designed to provide students of multimedia the opportunity to develop necessary foundation design skills, master software tools and processes, and experience industry standard production environments in various fields of multimedia production. The program curriculum is structured so as to provide students with a comprehensive balance of aesthetic, technological, and practical design application. Upon completion of this program, students will be qualified for entry level employment in the multimedia industry.

Program Goals and Objectives - The program provides educational instruction and career opportunities to students electing major sand /or courses in multimedia through transferable associate degrees and certificates in specialized multimedia fields.

Award SLOs –  

Students who complete the 3D Modeling and Animation CA will be able to:

·      Create content in 3D computer generated arts including modeling, texturing and lighting, character design and development.

·       Complete pre-production of 3D animation productions and visualizations.

Mesa College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a program because 1) entry-level earnings are below the living wage while some median earnings are above the living wage; 2) a high number of institutions train for these occupations; and 3) a supply gap exists for these positions. However, because this is a program modification, the COE supports the modification.
