New Program

TOPs Code

Engineering Technology, General (requires Trigonometry) (092400)

Projected Start Date

10/09/23

Catalog Description

Students completing the Certificate of Achievement as an Engineering Technologist develop the skills for many entry level engineering positions, including, optimizing systems, production, manufacturing, sustainability, setting up and conducting experiments for research and development firms, and design analysis. Students will be competent in advanced software, equipment, and design problem solving

Enrollment Completer Projections

Currently, engineering recruits 100 engineering students each semester->200 students/year, but only 20 - 30 students transfer. Many students who start in engineering get behind due to the level of difficulty of math, physics, and engineering courses. The engineering program anticipates 20-50 students per year will earn this certificate within two years after the certificate is available.

  • Certificate of Achievement: 16 or greater semester (or 24 or greater quarter) units (C)
Program Goal

While completing engineering transfer requirements, many students need income to help pay for school and other living expenses. Also, many students may get overwhelmed by the exorbitant amount of courses that they are required to take. This certificate gives students an option to either obtain an internship while attending school, thus gaining experience and income to continue their education, or allowing students to earn a certificate to obtain a full-time job for an engineering company. Many engineering and technology companies need employees who can utilize and solve problems with experience in labs, using advanced equipment, and preparing technical reports. This certificate will serve all engineering disciplines and can be specialized in mechanical, electrical, electro-mechanical, civil, mechatronics, or architectural.

Course Report

Program Requirements Narrative

The course requirements are what most engineering students will need to take to transfer to a university and obtain their Bachelor's degree in engineering.  These courses were chosen to give students the technical skills and knowledge needed for an entry level engineering positions in manufacturing, design, testing or research. Students will obtain knowledge of problem solving, lab experience, technical writing, and using testing equipment.
