Thiscertificate prepares students with an understanding of business and thenecessary skills required to successfully manage a project and to preparefor the PMP® or CAPM® certification exams. Topics covered includeproject integration, scope, cost management, software tools, projectcontrol, human resource management, risk management, quality management,procurement management, communications management and PMP®/CAPM® testpreparation. This certification is noted on the student’s collegetranscript informing future employers, admissions offices to colleges, andprofessional institutions that the student has received specialized training inproject management.

Program Goal

Project management is needed in all sectors and is growing throughout the business community. The business advisory requested more training on this topic and the certificate provides students with marketable skills in a short period of time. Toward that aim, the goals of the program are:

  • Students will demonstrate the project life cycles and processes in the application of a project.
  • Students identify and describe the 10 Project Management Knowledge areas with key inputs/outputs, tools, and techniques.
  • Students will apply project management skills and strategies to various business situations.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Students will communicate accurately andeffectively, both verbally and in writing, with clients, customers, co-workers,employees and supervisors in the workplace.

According to PMI (2018), "Project management skills and expertise are indemand globally, and earning potential remains promising." In addition, "Project management professionals with the PMP Certification earn 23% more." 

Overall, the program goal is to provide students the skills and knowledge to run projects within any sector and add needed expertise to an existing or new position. 

Note: COD has recently been accepted as an Authorized Training Partner (ATP) through PMI, so students will be able to use course hours toward the PMP or CAPM exam qualifications.
