This program is designed to teach students the fundamental skills required to manage the human resource function of an organization. It is suitable for individuals seeking to work in entry-level positions in Human Resources and other areas of management across different organizational settings.

Program Goal

The Human Resource Management, Certificate of Achievement program will prepare students for employment in a wide variety of Human Resource fields, including Human Resource Specialists, Human Resource Generalists, Human Resource Managers, and other related positions. Students will receive the theory and practical experience needed to earn employment in business, governmental, non-profit, and other related settings. This Certificate program utilizes existing academic programs and courses, and represents a set of skills in demand by organizations throughout the state based upon discussions with the advisory groups and other labor market information.

Students will achieve competencies for employment in a variety of areas, including the legal environment of business and human resources; the management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling; organizational behavior; communication; teamwork; conflict management, etc. Students will be eligible for employment in fields such as Human Resources Managers (11-3121), Human Resources Specialists (13-1071), Labor Relations Specialist (13-1075), Human Resources Assistant, Except Payroll and Timekeeping (43-4161), and Training and Development Managers (11-3131).

Program Requirements Narrative

There are no requested faculty or facilities for this program, as the Business Admin/Economics Department has existing faculty and facilities to support the program. The program serves to meet the labor market and educational needs of students and professionals seeking employment in the human resources field. Our program is vetted by an annual Advisory Board comprising experts in the field of business administration/management and industry needs, which allow us to tap into the needs of the Long Beach community labor force and align our Business Admin/Economics programs and courses to sync with the industry needs.
