Our 12-unit Skilled Parenting Certificate is part of a stackable certificate program designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the challenges and joys of parenthood confidently. We recognize that parenting is a lifelong journey filled with unique demands, and our program aims to provide a solid foundation to meet these challenges head-on.Throughout the program, students will delve into various aspects of parenting, including child development, effective communication with children, positive discipline techniques, and fostering healthy family dynamics. With a comprehensive curriculum, we ensure that graduates not only understand the theory behind successful parenting but can also apply these principles in their daily lives.Our certificate program is not just about academic learning; it's about creating a supportive community of parents who can learn from each other's experiences. Through group discussions, practical exercises, and sharing insights, students build a network of fellow parents, offering mutual support and guidance.Upon completion of the 12-unit Parenting Certificate program, graduates will be well-prepared to navigate the complexities of parenting with confidence and empathy. Whether they are new parents seeking guidance or experienced caregivers looking to enhance their skills, this program equips them to create nurturing and enriching environments for their children's growth and development.
Based on Datamart data, it is projected that 450 students will be enrolled, and there will be ten completers.
Program Proposal Attributes
- Certificate of Achievement: 8 to fewer than 16 semester (or 12 to fewer than 24 quarter) units (B)
- Enhanced Parenting Skills:
- Goal: Provide students with a comprehensive understanding of effective parenting techniques and strategies, empowering them to confidently navigate the challenges of parenthood.
- Objective: Graduates will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of child development, parenting strategies, and family dynamics.
- Child-Centered Approach:
- Goal: Instill in students the importance of a child-centered approach to parenting, where the well-being and development of the child are central to decision-making and caregiving.
- Objective: Graduates will exhibit the ability to apply effective parenting skills and techniques in real-life situations, promoting their child's well-being and development.
- Positive Discipline:
- Goal: Equip students with the knowledge and skills to implement positive discipline methods, fostering a nurturing and respectful parenting environment.
- Objective: Graduates will demonstrate competence in using positive discipline methods, nurturing a healthy and respectful parent-child relationship.
- Effective Communication:
- Goal: Develop students' communication skills with children, promoting healthy parent-child relationships built on trust and open dialogue.
- Objective: Graduates will communicate effectively with their children, facilitating open and constructive dialogue within their families.
- Family Dynamics:
- Goal: Explore the dynamics of family life, helping students understand how to create a harmonious and supportive family environment.
- Objective: Graduates will be able to create and maintain a harmonious family environment that supports the physical, emotional, and social growth of each family member.
- Community Support:
- Goal: Foster a sense of community among students, encouraging mutual support and sharing of experiences to enhance their parenting journey.
- Objective: Graduates will actively engage with and contribute to a supportive community of parents, sharing insights and experiences for mutual growth and support in their parenting journey.

This program is dedicated to nurturing educators who will have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of children and their families in California’s early learning landscape and are driven by a deep commitment to fostering early learning and child development in California which matches with AVC's goals and mission for students.
