Catalog Description
Associate in Science in Mechatronic Technology
Mechatronic technology is an interdisciplinary field that combines the study of mechanics, electronics, automation and computers. The Associate in Science in Mechatronic Technology is designed to provide students with knowledge and skills required for a variety of positions in the following industries:
Advanced Manufacturing/Semiconductor
Electrical/Electronics
Mechanical/Quality
Transportation/Logistics
Electric and Hybrid Vehicles
Medical
Equipment, Biotechnology
Aerospace/Defense, and Construction.
The program includes a wide range of skill-builder courses.
Program Learning Outcomes:
1. Integrate electrical, electronic and mechanical systems and devices.
2. Demonstrate written and verbal communication skills through technical documentation
and oral presentations.
3. Troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic and mechanical systems and devices.
Career/Transfer Opportunities:
Career opportunities include the following: robotics technician, field service technician,
industrial maintenance technician, engineering technician, electromechanical technician,
research and development technician.
Mission College has a long standing Engineering Program with an A.S. only. This is in part due to the fact that students transferring into engineering must satisfy Math and Physics prerequsites and requirements, and adding engineering courses of any kind result in greatly exceeding the 60 unit requirement for transfer.
The Mechatronics degree program is envisioned as a program that expands the ability of the student to prepare for a career directly, given the demand outlined in the Centers of Excellence report, and as such is envisioned as a CTE program which will be housed in Mission College's Math, Science, and Engineering (MSE) Division.
Current transfer rates from the sciences and math into 4-year schools (CSU, UC, etc.) are among the highest at the college. Upwards of 100 - 150 students transfer each year from the MSE Division.
The projections for students completing this degree program are shown in the table below. Mission College is already working with several Bay Area companies in review and recommendation of the courses, curriculum, learning outcomes, and sequence in the program.
It is anticipated that this program will see a dramatic increase in students enrolling and completing by year 4.

Course Report
The MTT Mechatronic Technology A.S. Degree Program consists of a block of required "Core" courses consisting of 3 Technical courses totalling 8 credits, and at least 1 of 2 Math courses, representing 4 to 6 credits depending on the course chosen. The student now has earned from 12 to 14 credits.
Once the student completes these requried courses totalling at least 12 and possibly 14 credits, the student can choose from 8 electives, each with 2 credits, and must complete at least 10 credits (or 5 courses). IN this way, the total credits earned in the program range from 22 to 30 credits.
