Designed to provide prerequisite knowledge required to be successful in a paramedic program course of study. Students are introduced to the paramedic skills and advanced life support protocols and will develop a strong baseline knowledge of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology and pathology. Sierra College has partnered with the CSUS (California State University Sacramento) Paramedic Program in selecting this course of study in preparing students with the greatest opportunity to be successful in a paramedic program.
Expected student enrollment completions in 2020-2021 are about 20 with steady increases expected in the future All of the classes in the Health Science certificate pattern are currently being offered. The program will begin outreach and marketing activities next fall and expect enrollment in the program to steadily trend upward. Currently the department awards an A.S. Degree that articulates with the CSUS Health Sciences Baccalaureate program. An additional EMS certificate of achievement is proposed in the department. The projected awards below do not meet the statewide or local needs and there is no other community college Health Science program in our regional area.
