The Cloud Computing and Virtualization degree program focus is on teaching students the fundamentals of cloud computing specifically on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure. Students will be prepared for a detailed overview of cloud concepts, AWS core services, security, architecture, pricing, and support. Further exploration of the fundamentals of building IT infrastructure on AWS will support development with the AWS SDK and identify best practices for building and deploying applications in the AWS Cloud preparing students to pursue in-demand DevOps, support, and cloud operations roles.
It is projected that 10-15 students will earn this degree annually.
The program goals and objectives include providing the fundamental knowledge of computer infrastructure, networking, and security. The core objectives of the program are to offer four foundational cloud computing courses designed by Amazon Web Services. These courses include AWS Academy Cloud Foundations; AWS Academy Cloud Architecting; AWS Academy Cloud Developing; and AWS Academy Cloud Operations.
This A.S. degree program will be incorporated into our existing network administration discipline. Four new courses will be added to match the 4 courses in the AWS Academy including Foundations, Architecting, Cloud Developing, and Cloud Operations. Four existing courses from the department will be used to provide foundational knowledge in the areas of computer operating systems, networking, python programming and cybersecurity.
