To provide a certificate that aligns with local area needs for entry-level positions in health and fitness programs.
There is a great opportunity to enter the career field with a coaching certificate. This Certificate aligns more with the health/coaching industry standards and we feel it is important to ensure more completions and serve our student population in this field of interest. We've created community partnerships with this certificate and have partners ready to take on our students as interns.

All, this was originally submitted as a "new program" but with a comment in the narrative section from the faculty member that this was modifying a program. I confirmed that it is a "new program" and not an actual program modification. I also got information from the department faculty that this would help in hiring our own students to work in athletic programs, and would be responsive to community need, however they had no supportive documents to add.

City supports as a modification.

I think this is the one we are all confused on last time - is it a mod or new program?
Jennifer Lewis · 11/16/22
SWC supports a program modification. We may need to further discuss.
George Dowden · 11/15/22
Yes, it appears to be submitted as a new program - is that intentional? Cuyamaca supports a modification.

IVC supports new program/modification.

@Susan This appears to have been entered as a new program, not a modification. Is this accurate?

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program, but supports a program modification because 1) there is a supply gap; 2) there is a high number of annual job openings; but 3) entry-level wages are below the living wage. The region should also note that employers typically require a bachelor’s degree as the minimum educational requirement for this occupation.
