This certificate program cultivates the skills learned in a variety of analog courses within the Photography Department. Coursework focuses on artisanal photographic techniques with emphasis on skills necessary for transferring to a 4- year programs of study in the arts, and qualifies students for employment in custom photography labs, running a wet darkroom, and to work for professional fine artists. Students will learn the characteristics of shooting/processing film, make custom prints in traditional color and B&W darkrooms, learn to use large format cameras, and experiment with non-silver alternative processes.

Apply for entry-level jobs and internships in the professional fine-art business and custom photography labs. Produce photographic artwork with a standard of quality congruent with being accepted into 4-year fine art programs. Empower students through technical knowledge, and passion for their work to pursue a career in photography and professional art making. Offer technical, hands on preparation and training with specialized photographic equipment. Provide students with learning opportunities designed to experience all facets of analog photography and art making, allowing individuals with strong employable skills. Be equitable and accessible to all students regardless of socioeconomic backgrounds, specific circumstances (including gender, age, race, or disabilities), innate talent, or previous level of experience. The Analog Photography Certificate will be self contained and structured as if students were learning a new language — the language of photography — through cumulative building blocks. Students will begin by acquiring basic skills and will complete their educational journey by learning the craft and doing independent creative work that leads to tangible opportunities in transferring to a four year program or to the professional job market.
