Management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems is critical to fire saftey and forest health locally and throughout the region. Courses that make up this certificate will provide students with the training and skills to obtain employment in this exciting field.
Upon satisfactory completion of this award, the student should be prepared to:
1. Attain, use, and develop knowledge and understanding in the subject of the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems
2. Use multiple thinking strategies to identify and examine real-world examples of concepts explored in coursework and their implications for the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems
3. Acquire, articulate, create and convey knowledge and understanding on the subject of the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems using a variety of methods of communication
4. Use acquired knowledge of the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems to make informed decisions about their personal lives, career choices, and the communities in which they live
Approximately 100 students are enrolled in the Forestry and Natural Resources program overall. Of those, it is expected that over 30 students will receive this certificate each year.
The goal of the Management and Restoration of Fire-Adapted Ecosystems Certificate of Achievement is to teach students the importance of fire in local landscapes and ecosystems and how to use fire and other tools to restore those landscapes and ecosystems. This Certificate address the challenges of our times; students who complete it would be prepared to use prescribed fire for fuels management, use mechanical thinning for fire fuels management, and understand the role of fire in local landscapes and ecosystems. Students completing this COA could also complete additional courses to obtain an A.S. in Forestry.
The Management and Restoration of Fire-Adapted Ecosystems Certificate of Achievement objectives are to prepare students to:
· Attain, use, and develop knowledge and understanding in the subject of the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems
· Use multiple thinking strategies to identify and examine real-world examples of concepts explored in coursework and their implications for the management and restoration of fire-adapted ecosystems
