This program provides comprehensive education to a diverse constituency for a career in the water and wastewater field that prepares students to contribute effectively in a profession responsible for protecting public health. Students will be qualified and prepared for industry certification exams including the State Water Resources Control Board and other certifying organizations.

Program Goal
The goal of this program is for local workforce preparation and advancement. This program will prepare a student for an entry level position at a local water/wastewater agency, while also allowing those already in the industry to advance in their current career path.
Program Objective
Our objective is to educate and prepare all students, including those of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and abilities for careers and advancement in the water industry. Our committed, highly trained faculty and partnerships with Local, State, and National entities ensure that our graduates will have successful careers that improve their lives, their communities, and the economy.
This is a program change with the intentions of merging the existing Water Technology Education program and Wastewater Technology Education program into s single designation, Water Technology Education. There will still be two distinct degrees awarded in Water Technology and Wastewater Technology. Classes will also be elevated to the transferrable level, while adding two new electives.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with developing a program because 1) entry-level wages for most Industrial Automation Occupations are above the living wage for San Diego County and 2) a supply gap exists.
