The Social Services Assistant Associate of Science degree provides a foundation for students interested in the fields of social services, human services, community outreach, and related areas. The degree also offers a basis for students interested in paraprofessional jobs in social service fields.
To acquire the Social Services Assistant Associate of Science Degree, students must complete the required major courses below with a grade of "C" or better along with one of the following: Rio Hondo College General Education and Proficiency requirements, California State University General Education Breadth (CSU GE), or Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC).

The Associate of Science degree in Social Services Assistant provides a foundation for students interested in the fields of social services, human services, community outreach and related areas. Objectives:
The A.S. in Social Services Assistant will:
1) Assist students interested in the Social Services field to select a major at Rio Hondo that aligns with their professional goals;
2) Provide students the opportunity to complete a two-year degree which would provide a marketable skill set in seeking entry level jobs in Social Services.
The program will be part of the Human Services Department. The intent is to have a Certificate of Completion of Human Services approved to serve as a starting point of entrance into the major. This degree includes the same core requirements along with general education subject matter.
This degree requires 7 courses (18-19 units) in the major plus the required general education requirements.
