This program includes a selection of courses that provides academic preparation to individuals for a career as a preschool teacher in an early childhood setting. The program will give students general knowledge and skills in theory, principles, and techniques for working with young children.

Students will be able to work with young children effectively and appropriately in care and education-based settings.
Program Objectives:
This certificate as well as the required courses in the certificate provide an engaging teaching and learning environment for students of diverse origins, experiences, needs, abilities, and goals. This program aligns with the California Child Development Permit.
This is a 11 course 28-unit Certificate of Achievement attainable in four semesters. It is also available as an AS Degree with GE units applied.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program, but supports a program modification because 1) there is a supply gap; 2) there is a high number of annual job openings; but 3) entry-level wages are below the living wage.
