Students will earn a Graphic Arts 2 Certificate of Achievement by completing 27-unit course requirements. Upon completion of the Graphic Design 2 Certificate, students can obtain Internships and/or entry-level or intermediate jobs in Graphic & Web Design, Advertising & Marketing, Social Media, Gaming, Public Relations and Entertainment occupations. Student learning outcomes include using various software applications that are utilized in the gaming and entertainment industries, applying design skills in commercial and communication industries, and the ability to self-evaluate and edit work based on visual values and appropriate presentation methods. This certificate aligns with the College’s mission to provide a transfer path for student success and to obtain an advanced certificates that lead to job placement.

West Los Angeles College's Graphic Design 2 Certificate of Achievement provides our students with essential skills to meet the growing demands in creative industries ranging from digital fine arts, entertainment, commercial art, photojournalism, advertising & marketing and media & software services provided for any of these industries. Requests for their skills range from technical, to analytical, to creative.
This CTE certificate is part of a stackable series of certificates that will prepare students for entry-level and intermediate positions in digital technology, augmented reality, virtual reality, web design, marketing and other technical capabilities that are continuously transforming all aspects of our lives. These certificates will serve as a strong foundational skill set for those who wish to directly enter the current workforce and meet advancing changes in technology. Upon completing the foundation certificate, students will be able to enter in two separate industrial labor force paths:
With the Graphic Design 1 & 2 certificates, students will be trained in graphic design, commercial art, print, advertising, social media platforms, photojournalism, and marketing.
With the Interactive Design 1 & 2 certificates, students will be trained in interactive design, animation, motion graphics, social media platforms, web design and E-commerce.
The certificates will be offered in a "three level" approach. The first level has students earning the foundation certificate after 12 units of study, which comprises the building blocks to achieve the other certificates.
For the “second and third level” branches, students choose one of two separate certificate pathways: the entry level Graphic Design 1 and (if desired) advanced Graphic Design 2 pathways, which focus on graphic arts skill sets and are composed of 21 units and 27 units respectively. .

West Los Angeles College's Graphic Design 2 Certificate of Achievement begins with grounding in essential multimedia skills and design terminology. Students study basic computer graphics, design principles and create computer graphics projects for a portfolio. In the second semester, students continue building their professional portfolio with more advanced projects in digital imaging and desktop publishing. In the final semester students develop even more advanced skills in desktop publishing and create portfolio projects involving interactive media as well as digital imaging. Demonstrating these essential skills will help meet the growing demand in creative industries for skills in digital fine arts, commercial art, photojournalism, advertising & marketing.
