Program Description:
The Culinary Arts program provides students with basicknowledge and practical training experiences in food service principles andbaking fundamentals. The program curriculum gives students opportunities topractice skills and techniques in the culinary arts field through lab work andvarious types of catering experiences.
Program Requirement:
Proof of a current negative TB test is required for anyculinary course that includes laboratory hours. Some Possible Careers Chef orcook in a restaurant, school, hotel, or cruise ship, pastry chef, baker, souschef, chef de froid, caterer, restaurant owner, restaurant or hotel generalmanager, or dining room manager.
Program Student Learning Outcome Statement:
Students who complete the program will be: • attractive candidates for job openings and promotions in the culinary arts field through the development of a strong personal work ethic and an outstanding demonstration of acquired culinary skills. (CCC Catalog, p.114)

The principle objectives of the CulinaryArts Department are to provide an opportunity for students to discover theculinary arts, the science of gastronomy and to learn how to prepare and servefood of the highest possible quality. Duringtraining, emphasis is placed on building character and leadership ability tofurther prepare students for the demanding professional environment of the foodservice industry.
Creation of a learning atmospheresimilar to a realistic food service business assists the students in preparingfor the move into the job market. Insummary, Culinary Arts is a very viable and sustaining program that providesneeded training to the members of our community and beyond; provides a valuableand necessary food service element to the patrons on and off campus; andrepresents a successful promotional image for the college as a whole. The Culinary Arts Department is destined forsuccess with the help of the staff, students, and community working andstriving in collaboration.
