The Ranger Academy Certificate of Achievement prepares the student to work in a national park or other regional or county park area as a law enforcement officer. The curriculum includes a broad spectrum of federal statutes along with enforcement strategies and protocols. It further includes Constitutional and Federal Law, defensive tactics, firearms, driving and all subjects required by the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service for commission as a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger. Santa Rosa Junior College is authorized by the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service to issue this certificate. Individuals who complete the program and receive the certificate may obtain a commission authorizing employment as a Seasonal Law Enforcement Ranger from the U.S. Department of the Interior/National Park Service.

This certificate will prepare students to work in a national park, or other regional park as a law enforcement officer.
Upon successful completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:
1. Identify, define and demonstrate basic tasks of peace officers;
2. identify, classify, and apply appropriate provisions of federal law related to peace officers;
3. perform and document complete preliminary investigations assigned to peace officers; and
4. demonstrate the physical skills needed to perform the tasks of a peace officer in the areas of driving, shooting and defensive tactics.

The curriculum for this certificate is directed by the National Park Service which requires SRJC to deliver each student 679.5 hours of instruction. SRJC's program delivers approximately 700 hours of instruction (both lecture and lab). There are no similar programs at other colleges in Santa Rosa Junior College’s service area and this is the only such Ranger Academy in the State of California and one of only seven nationwide. The external accreditation for this certificate comes from the Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) Board.
