This program includes a selection of courses that provides academic preparation to individuals for a teaching career to work with children (primarily ages 3-5) in early childhood settings. The program will give students the general knowledge and skills in theory, principles, and techniques for this specialized group of children.

This program includes a selection of courses that provides academic preparation to individuals for a teaching career to work with children (primarily ages 3-5) in early childhood settings. The program will give students the general knowledge and skills in theory, principles, and techniques for this specialized group of children. Due to the course selection in this program, students will receive the coursework required to earn a State of California Child Development Permit at the Master Teacher level. This permit is required for all Head Start and CA state funded preschool programs.
This is a 15 course 37.5-unit Certificate of Achievement attainable in four semesters. It is also available as an AS Degree with GE units applied.

Palomar College submitted the appropriate LMI from the COE. The COE recommends proceeding with caution when developing a new program, but supports a program modification because 1) there is a supply gap; 2) there is a high number of annual job openings; but 3) entry-level wages are below the living wage.
