This certificate will prepare the student for a career working with the aging or elderly.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, students will be able to apply professional standards of practice in services to the aging and elderly and their families in the home and the community.
5-10 students per academic year.
Students are expected to be prepared for entry level jobs after completing the certificate of achievement.
The certificate in Gerontology is an interdisciplinary program comprised of classes in Family and Consumer Studies, Nutrition, Health Occupations, Sociology, Psychology and Child Development. The classes for the certificate totals 20.5 units.
We are requesting the removal of one elective class FAM&CS 091: Life Management from the program because there is a similar class offered by the counseling department. This class is not regularly offered due to low enrollment and we want students to complete the required courses in a timely manner and earn their certificates. There are 4 other elective classes that students can select from.
