The Certificate of Achievement in Video Game Development is designed to provide students with strong foundational skills in Video Game Design and Video Game Development. Students graduate with the competencies needed to apply for entry-level positions in Video Game Design, Animation, Medical and Scientific Visualization, Motion Pictures and Visual Effects, and Visual Simulation fields and acquire transfer credit to continue their studies at baccalaureate colleges.
It is estimated that on average 15 students will complete the Certificate of Video Game annually.

The Certificate of Achievement in Video Game Development is designed to provide students with strong foundational skills in Video Game Design and Video Game Development. Students have the opportunity to become competitive in the video game industry and graduate with the competencies needed to apply for entry-level positions in the Video Game Design, Animation, Medical and Scientific Visualization, Motion Pictures and Visual Effects, Interaction Design, VR for Education, and Visual Simulation fields. Acquired competencies combine art skills such as visual design and drawing abilities with technical competencies in 2D and 3D animation; game engines and basic programming skills; conceptual skills including an understanding of gameplay and management and team collaboration methods such as Scrum and Agile. Career opportunities include entry-level positions as Video Game Artists, Game Level Designers, 2D Animators, 3D Animators, QA/Video Game Testers, UI Architects, UX Designers, Technical artists, Visual Designers, Interaction Designers, Junior Producers, Motion Designers, and others.
Program Learning Outcomes
This program is a program revision from an already existing Certificate of Accomplishment to a Certificate of Achievement. The new certificate allows students to extend skills and develop certain capabilities needed for a career in the video game design industry. It also considers articulation and transfer patterns to allow students to continue their studies at baccalaureate colleges.
Requirements for Certificate of Achievement:
a) Complete Major Field courses.
b) Complete at least six units at Ohlone College.
c) Maintain a 2.0-grade point average in Major Field courses.
