This five-semester course of study is designed to give students thorough and well-balanced training in buying flowers, and the art of arranging in the Sogetsu Style.
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:
Historically courses have enrollments of 15-30 in each section. Expected completion of certificate is 15 students annually.
Qualification in workforce preparation for employment in oriental floral arrangement including buying flowers, the art of arranging and selling them to the public, and sharing the information as an instructor. Students who complete the curriculum satisfactorily are qualified for employment as designers and teachers in the art of arranging oriental style designs in recreation, activity, craft and hobbyist situations.
The Floristry Program offers a complete curriculum that maintains strong links with flower shop owners, growers, wholesalers and manufacturers, and community-based organizations (many of whom are CCSF graduates).
Successful graduates work in public as well as private institutions, which may include running their own floral business, wholesaling to the retailer, or working as an independent freelance floral designer for hotels and special events and community instructors. CCSF floristry graduates and alumni are in demand by such companies such as Amazon, Whole Foods, FTD, Teleflora, and 1-800-Flowers.
