Microsoft Office is a suite of products developed by Microsoft that includes Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. Each programs servers a different purpose and is compatible with other programs included in the package. Microsoft Office is the most common form of software used in the business world.
Take your certificate a step further by becoming a Microsoft Office Specialist. Imperial Valley College's Microsoft Office certificate will prepare you to become a Microsoft Office Specialist, holding an industry standard certification that will take your career to the next level.
Based om current Office Technology enrollment patterns, it is estimated that 25 students will complete the certification annually.
The Microsoft Office Suite encompasses the business industry standard for producing documents, spreadsheets, presentations and managing emails and databases. Students in the program will learn each application associated with these high in demand tasks.
Students will utilize the Microsoft Office applications to communicate, produce documents, send emails, and give presentations in a business setting. Students will learn skills and techniques within the following applications: PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook and Access. The program will focus on the following objectives:
1. Closing the skills gap for business and industry by teaching in-demand skills needed by industry.
2. Recognize when to use each of the Microsoft Office programs to create professional and academic documents.
3. Use Microsoft Office programs to create personal, academic, and business documents following current professional and/or industry standards.

The program will be required to adhere to both the institutional program review requirements as well as the individual CTE program review mandate. Institutionally, all programs are required to have a three-year cycle review with one comprehensive review and two update cycles. In the comprehensive review, program data is analyzed to establish the overall “health” of the program. CTE also requires a biannual review of specific matrices and employment data. The program will also be required to have two advisory committees per academic year to establish a continuous line of communication with industry.
